Transparent Mysteries
In the wake of Hamas' violent incursion into Israel on October 7, 2023, many Israelis and individuals worldwide likened the newly aggressive and audacious Palestinian militant group to the most lethal terrorist organisation globally, ISIS – the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.
For instance, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directly associated the two groups on October 25, 2023, stating: "Hamas is ISIS and ISIS is Hamas." President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made similar comparisons. Secretary of State Antony Blinken remarked that Hamas's killing of families "brings to mind the worst of ISIS."
There are numerous reasons for Israel to want the world to perceive Hamas as ISIS – including the aspiration to garner the type of international support that led to the formation of the 86-member Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS in 2014. During the conflict between 2014 and 2019, the coalition recaptured all the territory previously seized by the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.
Indeed, the October 7 attack exhibited tactics strikingly similar to those employed by the Islamic State group.
How Israel helped create Hamas?
Hamas, known as the "Islamic Resistance Movement," might not exist today if it weren't for the Jewish state. Israeli officials, including Brig. Gen. Yitzhak Segev, who served as the Israeli military governor in Gaza during the early 1980s, confessed to providing financial support to Palestinian Islamist factions. They saw them as a counterbalance to secular and leftist groups such as the Palestine Liberation Organization and Fatah, led by Yasser Arafat.
Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official with over two decades of experience in Gaza, asserted in 2009 that Hamas is essentially a creation of Israel. This perspective suggests that Israel inadvertently fostered the growth of Hamas, initially supporting a militant strain of Palestinian political Islam, only to later attempt to dismantle it through bombings, blockades, and sieges.
Israel created and funded Hamas just like the USA created ISIS. Mard Danner in his essay in 2003 says “ Hamas is ours, we are the one who created it”
What is the link between Hamas and ISIS and who was Ephraim Benjamin?
Back in 2017 in Libyan security forces arrested a man they say is a Mossad spy who was a high-ranking leader of ISIS in Benghazi, a city in northeastern Libya. This is according to an Israeli website called Inian Merkazi, which means "Main Points".
The website claims the man, Ephraim Benjamin, is a Jewish spy who went undercover with Libyans after the 2011 uprising that toppled dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
Another website, Masr Alarabia, says Benjamin is one of Mossad's "Arabists." These agents are known for blending in with Arabs because they look Arabic and speak Arabic fluently, including local dialects.
Masr Alarabia also claims Israeli Arabists often infiltrate Palestinian protests to arrest demonstrators or even kill Palestinian activists who oppose Israeli occupation.
The report says Benjamin became a well-respected imam at a large mosque in Benghazi. He then rose through the ranks of ISIS and commanded 200 fighters.
Alleged spy known as "Abu Hafs" was arrested in Libya two months ago. Libyan officials say he was collecting information on ISIS for Mossad, Israel's intelligence agency.
The Israeli website claims this arrest proves Arab media's conspiracy theory that Israel helped ISIS grow stronger in the region. Many Arab countries believe this.
Libyan media have nicknamed the arrested man the "Mossad Sheikh."
ISIS started operating in Libya around 2015. Many believe a video they released in February 2015, showing the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians in Sirte, was their official announcement in Libya. However, some believe ISIS was already active there before that.
